Health services

The Hurricane Health Center offers the following services for all TU students, as well as faculty and staff on a TU medical insurance plan.

COVID-19 testing and vaccination

The University of Tulsa strongly recommends all students, staff and faculty receive and remain current with their COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots. COVID-19 vaccinations are the best way to prevent yourself from becoming infected or becoming seriously ill if you are infected. Hurricane Health offers free COVID-19 vaccinations made by Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Please call 1-800-993-8244 to schedule your appointment.

Hurricane Health also provides COVID-19 testing by appointment.

Medications

The clinic’s physicians must order all prescription medications. A list of no-cost medications that are available at Hurricane Health is available online.

Diagnostic testing

The health center is able to perform various lab tests, including dipstick urine, strep screens, flu test and pregnancy tests. Additional lab work can be drawn at the clinic and sent to a reference lab.

HIV/STI testing

Testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections including syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and herpes are available at Hurricane Health. HIV testing is also available. Referrals to confidential off-campus sites can be made.

Women’s health services

Women’s health services are available by appointment for enrolled students. A nurse practitioner will perform annual gynecological exams, including breast exams, STI testing and treatment, contraceptive management and pregnancy testing. Please call the clinic for more information.

Immunizations

The State of Oklahoma requires all students who attend Oklahoma colleges and universities to provide proof of immunization for certain diseases. Medical, religious and personal exemptions are allowed by law and must be made in writing using The University of Tulsa Certificate of Exemption form. Please refer to the Immunization Compliance Policy page for more information.

Immunizations available at Hurricane Health include:

  • Hepatitis B (series of three injections)
  • HPV (human papillomavirus) (series of three injections)
  • Influenza (annually in the fall)
  • Meningitis
  • MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
  • TD (tetanus, diphtheria)
  • Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
