The Veteran and Military-Connected Student Success Coach, at the McKee Veterans Success Center, is both a career coach and a student success coach. Services offered are listed below.

Career Development Services:

* Career coaching is, also, offered through CCDPE based on the college in which you are enrolled.

  •  Resume and Cover letter assistance
  •  Mock Interviews and other interview preparation
  •  Counsel on employment opportunities (internship and full-time)
  •  Individual career counseling (including alternative careers)
  •  Host Veteran-specific programming
  •  Provide networking opportunities
  •  Provide access to local/national job posting websites
  •  Provide assistance in contacting recruiters and alumni
  •  Offer guidance on professionalism issues

Student Success Services:

* Please note that you may be assigned to the Student Success team during your freshman year.

  • Assist students with goals

  • Provide accountability to further success

  • Freshman Year

     

    • Enroll in your block courses, and learn about the curricula and other requirements.
    • Meet professors and take advantage of office hours.
    • Visit the McKee Student Success Center to learn about the available services and resources.
    • Make a major selection.
    • Get involved on campus via Student Organizations and other opportunities- Student Veterans Association, Student Association, etc.
    • Attend Lunch ‘n Learns at the McKee Student Veterans Center and various job fairs.
  • Sophmore Year

     

    • Make a tentative career plan, setting short- and long-term goals.
    • Work on gaining experience that will help you find a job when you graduate (i.e. internships, practicums, etc.).
    • Become familiar with the Handshake and use it to explore summer employment and internships within your field.
    • Meet with professionals for informational interviewing or job shadowing.
    • Attend Lunch ‘n Learns at the McKee Student Veterans Center and various job fairs.
  • Junior Year

     

    • Meet with the Veteran and Military-Connected Student Success Coach to discuss goals.
    • Become familiar with the Handshake and use it to explore summer employment and internships within your field.
    • Develop a working resume.
    • Participate as a student member in professional organizations and begin networking.
    • Research companies and organizations where you may like to work.
    • Adjust short- and long-term goals.
    • Get to know faculty, counselors and administrators, if you have not done so already.
    • Participate in on-campus activities and group projects.
    • Research graduate schools, if you are considering continuing your education.
  • Senior Year

     

    • Complete the requirements for your major, and minor, if relevant.
    • Update your resume, research companies and participate in job-search related workshops.
    • Research and explore companies interviewing on campus and sign up for on campus interviews.
    • Choose faculty and administrators who you want to use as references.
    • Enroll for graduate school exams and apply for graduate school, if appropriate.
